Rich tributes paid to Tagore at RU

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY, Apr 18: Speakers said at a discussion meeting that Rabindranath Tagore is not only indispensable to us but also a source of inspiration. The poet is our constant inspiration against fundamentalism, communalism and the enemies of Bengali culture and heritage. Speakers said these at the discussion meting to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore at the Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday morning. The Institute of Bangladesh Studies (IBS) of RU organized a Bangla New Year Speech at its seminar room on Saturday. The meeting started at 10 am where Prof. Pabitro Sarker, former Vice Chancellor of Rabindra Bharoti University of India the prime speaker while RU VC Prof M Abdus Sobhan presided. In the meting speakers discussed on different aspects of Rabindranath life and his literacy work. They also paid their rich tributes to the great poet and said that Rabindranath was universal and his writings opened up a new horizon in the Bengali literature. The Bangabandhu Professor of Dhaka University and former Prof of Philosophy Department of RU Dr Hasan Azizul Haque was chief guest. RU vacation begins Another message from RU adds: A 45-day long summer vacation began on Sunday at the University of Rajshahi (RU) and continue will till May 31, said a press release from the university public relations office. All the regular classes will remain suspended during this period. The residential dormitories will remain open during the vacation period since some departments are poised to take final exams to ease the session jam.
