Ripon Mondol leads Abahani to third straight victory

Abahani clinched their third straight victory in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) super league phase with a four-wicket win over Legends of Rupganj at BKSP-3 ground in Savar on Sunday, reports BSS.
Ripon Mondol claimed 4-45, which was instrumental to wrapping up Mashrafe Bin Mortaza-led Rupganj for 230 in 47.2 overs. Abahani batters then batted with unwavering resolve to hunt down the target with 10 overs to spare, making 233-6.
Mahmudul Hasan with 76 and opener Naim Sheikh scored 56 to complement Mondol's effort in a victory that came easier than anticipation.
The victory kept Abahani in the top of the point table, bolstering their hope to regain the title after one season. For Rupganj, Irfan Shukkur made team-high 52 and Chirag Jani added 50.
In the day's other match, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club kept them in the title race with 13-run win over Prime Bank Cricket Club at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city. Saif Hassan led the victory with 83-run knock.
Elsewhere, Mahmudullah Riyad struck 71 and Abdul Majid hit 63 as Mohammedan Sporting Club bounced back to winning after losing two matches in super league with a 20-run win over Gazi Group Cricketers at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.
In the relegation league, Shinepukur crushed Agrani Bank by 140 runs for their second straight victory, thanks to a 116-run knock of Amite Hasan at BKSP-4 ground.
In another match, after losing first two matches in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) super league phase, Mohammedan Sporting Club finally found them in winning position as they beat Gazi Group Cricketers by 20 runs at Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah in Narayanganj.
Veteran batter Mahmudullah Riyad led the victory with 71-run and one wicket while Abdul Majid complemented his effort with 63 runs.
Put into bat first, Mohammedan Sporting Club piled up 240-9. Ariful scored 55 off 44 with one four and six sixes to help the side make the total challenging one.
Tipu Sultan grabbed 3-31 while Mohammad Enamul and Jaynul Islam took two wickets apiece.
In reply, Gazi Group Cricketers were bowled out for 220 in 49 overs with SM Meherob hitting highest 63 off 79 with one four and three sixes. Mehedi Maruf was the other notable scorer with 42.
Nazmul Apu, Enamul Haque Junior, Khaled Ahmed and Mushfik Hasan bagged two wickets apiece for Mohammedan.
