Risks from energy drinks

Saturday, 9 July 2022

Television commercials for energy drinks show that their beverages will boost your performance and help you feel energised. No wonder almost every young adult buys these drinks after watching those TVCs and other advertisements. However, they hardly know about harmful effects of consuming energy drinks.
It is not hard to believe that energy drinks can cause a myriad of health problems. The extra sugar in an energy drink might keep you awake for a while, but it is going to contribute to insulin resistance, tooth decay, and diabetes. It will push your blood pressure up quickly. Energy drinks cause health problems not because they contain sugar and caffeine, but also because they have so much sugar and caffeine that it can hurt your body. According to a study conducted by the Journal of the American Heart Association, energy drinks are detrimental to health and are a leading cause of heart diseases. Moreover, other side effects include insomnia and gastrointestinal upset.
What is worse is the consumption of these drinks by different age groups. Both among teens and adults, energy drinks are a much-liked beverage now. Energy drinks contain such supplements that the consumer must be warned of beforehand with a precautionary label on the packaging of the product. This trend needs to be discouraged via tax and increased pricing.
