Saturday, 22 November 2014

Two factions of the local unit of Awami League (AL) engaged in a clash at Samta Bazar in Sharsha Upazila in Jessore district on Friday night over establishing dominance. Police said local AL leaders Liakat and Akbar Member had long been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy and taking control of Satmail cattle market. In sequel to the enmity, a chase and counter-chase occured between the two groups at Samta-Satmail. At one stage, supporters of Akbar Member blasted a dozen crude bombs targeting their rivals, sending a panic wave in the area. Being informed, police rushed in and recovered an unexploded bomb from the spot. An unspecified number of people were injured in the clash, according to a news agency.
