Rivkin to discuss US-BD business ties

US Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs Charles Rivkin will hold meetings in Dhaka on issues related to bilateral trade and investment, regional economic connectivity, workers rights and factory safety issues. Sources at US embassy in Dhaka has said Rivkin will arrive here on Wednesday afternoon on a 2-day visit to Bangladesh. However, the US embassy did not specify who he will meet during his stay till Thursday. Rivkin will highlight the opportunities for collaboration between Bangladeshi and US businesses in Bangladesh and the region, drawing on his background as a former corporate CEO. Rivkin is the 1st non-career bilateral ambassador to lead this bureau. According to his office, Secretary of State John Kerry brought him in with a team of business leaders to help fulfill his mandate – ‘economic policy is foreign policy’, according to a news agency.
