ANTI-HASINA MOVEMENT

Rizvi demands trials of mass killers

Unity of all parties must to face present situation: Dudu

FE REPORT | Thursday, 5 September 2024

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi demanded trials of the persons involved in the mass killings during the anti-Hasina movement.
"It will be a treacherous act against the martyred, if the killers, who have killed children, students and others upon the directives of Sheikh Hasina during the recent anti-government movement, are not tried."
He said these while handing over financial grants on behalf of the party's acting chairman, Tarique Rahnan, to father of Golam Rabbani who embraced martyrdom during the movement - at Shahbag in the capital on Wednesday.
Pointing finger to Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Rizvi said, "They've said they have pardoned Awami League. But the trials of the persons who've killed children, students and other people must be ensured."
"I've earlier said none should become victims of false cases. But those who are real culprits must not be pardoned."
He called upon the BNP leaders and activists not to take law into their hands, and urged them to cooperate with the law-enforcing agencies, as the party's acting chairman has sent a strong message in this regard.
Meanwhile, BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu stressed unity among the political parties to overcome the present crucial situation.
"Democracy wouldn't have returned to the country, if BNP was not born. BNP was established to help the country to get rid of indiscipline, anarchy and lawlessness - witnessed after the changeover in 1975. The freedom-loving people, including farmers, labourers and others, saw rays of hope after the birth of BNP."
He made the comments at a discussion, marking BNP's 46th founding anniversary, organised by Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Dal in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday.
