Saturday, 27 December 2014

The authorities of Bangladesh Railway (BR) has suspended its engineer for keeping a bore well (a long and wide pipe) exposed in an abandoned pump house in Dhaka city. Senior Sub-assistant Engineer Jahangir Alam was suspended on Friday evening for negligence of his duty following the falling of a 4-year-old-boy into the 400 feet deep bore-well in a city railway colony in the afternoon. The BR also blacklisted contractor company ‘SR House’. When contacted, BR Director General Tofazzol Hossain confirmed Alam's removal and SR House's blacklisting. He stated that the BR-approved pipeline in Shajahanpur Railway Colony in Dhaka went out of order over 2 months ago. Later, another pipeline was dug and the tender was given to SR House and Alam was the caretaker of the work. Tofazzol said the pipeline was covered initially. The contractor company removed it for the sake of their work in the 2nd pipeline but they kept it uncovered, he added, according to a news agency.
