RAJSHAHI, Sept 12 (BSS): Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) has been closed until October 10 next following a clash between Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jatiyatabadi Chhtra Dol (JCD) at its hostel Thursday night.
The residential students have been asked to vacate their dormitories by 6:00 pm Friday.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the academic council of the RMC held at the college Friday morning with Principal Dr Fazlur Rahman in the chair.
Quoting witnesses, the police said the clash erupted when some BCL activists tried to capture room no. 205 of Pinku Hostel by evicting JCD workers from the room at around 11.30 Thursday night.
Both the groups pelted stones during the clash that continued for half an hour leaving at least 10 students injured.
Being informed, the police rushed to the hostel and brought the situation under control.
Injured students were undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Talking to the news agency Prof Fazlur Rahman said the decision was taken to avert any further violences.
