RMC, RUET likely to open Apr 26 or 27

RAJSHAHI, Apr 19 (UNB): Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) may open on April 26 or 27 after over a month's closure following the campus violence in which a Chhatra Shibir leader was killed.
The decision came from a meeting of the district and police administrations, academics and politicians at the local Circuit House Sunday with Divisional Commissioner Hafizur Rahman Bhuiyan in the chair.
The meeting also decided to open Rajshahi University at the end of the current month considering the overall situation.
Classes at Rajshahi College may resume on May 6 after its summer vacation ends.
The authorities also declared that all kinds of political activities would remain suspended on the campus until further order.
Rajshahi University unit secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir Sharifuzzaman Nomani was killed and over 100 people were injured in sporadic clashes between the cadres of Bangladesh Chhatra League and the Chhatra Shibir on the varsity campus on March 13. Rajshahi University, Rajshahi Medical College and Rajshahi College were closed on March 13 while RUET on the following day.
