RMG cos fetch $12.2m export orders from Madrid trade fair

Bangladeshi ready-made garments (RMG) companies fetched $12.2 million export orders from a three-day "Plural Fashion-2007" trade fair that was held in Madrid from May 24 to May 26.
The RMG companies were able to obtain confirmed export orders and prospective export orders amounting to $2.6 million and $9.6 million respectively for different ready-made garments.
A number of countries including Bangladesh, China, Spain, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan and Thailand participated in the fair.
Shafi-ul-Alam, minister (commerce) of Bangladesh embassy in Madrid, inaugurated the Bangladesh pavilion in the fair. The minister said the main objective of the country's participation in the fair is to popularise Bangladeshi garments among the Spanish and European buyers.
He urged Bangladeshi companies to take full advantage of duty-free entry of garments offered by the European Union (EU) under EBA in favour of LDCs, he added.
A total of 14 Bangladeshi companies took part in the fair with a large number of knit and woven products. The major displayed products were shirts, T-shirts, polo-shirts, jackets, trousers, shorts, dresses, baby garments, swimwears, briefs, night dresses, pajamas, ensembles, sweaters, pullovers, vests, track suits, caps, etc.
Bangladeshi stalls were visited by a large number of Spanish and European visitors, wholesalers, importers and retailers.
Besides, Bangladeshi companies held a good number of one-to-one business meetings with potential importers/buyers of Spain and other European counties.
