RMG unrest leaves 40 hurt at Ashulia

Nearly 50 garment factories have suspended production on Monday as thousand of workers clashed with police demanding wage-hike and other benefits that left at least 40 injured at Ashulia Industrial belt.
Witnesses said some nine thousand workers of three units of Envoy Group, owned by president of Bangladesh Garment Manufactures and Exporters Association (BGMEA) Abdus Salam Murshedy, started agitating in front of the apparel unit at Jamgora as the authorities reneged on the promise.
The garment owners at a meeting with the union leaders had fixed Monday for the commencement of the facility, the workers claimed.
