RMG worker gang raped, 5 held in city

A teenaged female worker of a readymade garment (RMG) factory has been gang raped in the city. The worker, Nazma (not real name) was gang raped when she went to meet her fiancée at Baten Nagar at Dhaka’s Darussalam. Police arrested five accused involved with the incident on Tuesday. Four of the arrestees were identified as: Faisal, alias Goga Faisal, 23, Tushar, 21, Ashik Mahmud, 24, and Sani, alias Rubel. Identity of the other detainee could not be gathered. Police could not arrest the main accused Jony, an employee of a shop located in Mirpur, and three other accused. SM Kawser Ahmed, inspector (investigation) of Darussalam Police Station said Jony, the ‘boyfriend’ of the RMG worker, called her to an under construction building at Baten Nagar around 10:00am on December 21 saying that he had an important talk with her. As she went there, Jony raped the girl. Then, 7 associates of Jony also joined him and took turn to rape the hapeless young girl and left her there in semi-unconscious state. Later the victim managed to return her residence informed it to her grandparents. After the incident, the girl filed a case on Monday with the concerned police station, according to a news agency.
