RMG workers block road for salary dues

Workers of two readymade garment (RMG) factories blocked roads for an hour in Chittagong on Saturday, demanding immediate payment of their salary dues. The workers of Wakia and Techno Garments say that they didn't get their salaries for May, Industrial Police Inspector Arifur Rahman told thr reporters. Nearly a thousand of RMG workers stopped traffic on Sheikh Mujib Road at Dewanhat intersection from 10am on Saturday. Their protest caused a long traffic snarl from Agrabad Commercial area to the port city's export processing zone. Vehicles stood in several roads till 12pm because of the blockade. The blockaders started to move at around 11:30am after metropolitan and industrial police persuaded them to lift the road blockade. 'Techno Garments recently laid-off some of their workers. The workers were also protesting against that. ‘We told them we will mediate between them and the factory owners,’ Inspector Arifur Rahman said, according to a news agency.
