RMG workers' protest halts traffic in city

Traffic movement on the Mohakhali-Mogbazar road came to a halt for more than one and a half hour Monday, as agitated workers of a garment unit at Tejgaon industrial area blockaded the road.
The angry workers of a Korean apparel unit, Focus Fashion Ltd, also damaged several vehicles during the protest at about 9:30am.
Witnesses said staff and workers went on the rampage to realise their demands that include hike in wages and overtime allowances.
Later, the workers of neighbouring factories joined the protest causing sufferings to the city commuters, particularly the office goers.
The blockade was lifted at about 11:00am as police contingent arrived and intervened.
