Road accidents claim seven lives in three districts

SYLHET, Jan 18 (BSS): A driver and two others were killed in a road accident in Sadar area of the district on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Rais Ali, 60, Nazim Uddin Shah, 35 and Sohel, 25.
Police said a truck hit a roadside tree of the Sylhet-Sunamganj road as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving three people including truck driver dead on the spot.
The bodies were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Shafiqul Islam, officer- in-charge of Jalalabad police station, said police seized the truck.
Meanwhile, UNB adds: In Pabna, an auto rickshaw driver and a passenger were killed and five other passengers were injured as a bus hit the vehicle on Pabna-Ishwardi highway in Tentultola area of Ishwardi upazila on Thursday noon.
The deceased were identified as driver Soleman, 60, and the passenger Shamsuddin Kamal, 55, residents of Bangalpara village.
The accident took place around 12 noon when a 'Hanif Paribahan' bus hit the auto rickshaw carrying six passengers, leaving the duo dead on the spot and five others injured.
The injured were admitted at Pabna and Rajshahi Medical College and Hospitals.
In Chittagong, an official of Eastern Refinery and his wife were killed in a road accident in New Mansurabad area in the city on Wednesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahman, 53, assistant manager of Eastern Refinery and his wife Manju Ara Begum, 45-- residents of Eastern Refinery colony at Patenga and hailing from Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district.
A speeding bus hit the couple while they were crossing a road in the area, leaving them injured critically, said Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, elder son of the deceased.
Later, they were taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and then shifted to a private hospital where Manju Ara succumbed to her injuries around 8:00pm and Abdur Rahman at 1:00am on Thursday.
