Road accidents kill college student among two

GAZIPUR, July 22 (UNB): Two people, including a student of Notre Dame College, were killed in separate road accidents in Tongi and Sadar Upazila.
In Tongi Upazila, a student of Notre Dame College was crushed under the wheels of a bus on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Cherag Ali area on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Jakir Hossain (18), a resident of Bancharampur Upazila of Brahmanbaria district and a class XI student of the college.
Nazmul Haque, sub-inspector of Tongi Police Station said the accident took place as the Dhaka-bound 'Bashumoti Paribahan' bus from Gazipur ran over Jakir on the highway while he was crossing the road, leaving him critically injured.
Later he was rushed to Tongi 50-bed Government Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Dhaka United hospital but he died on way.
Police detained the driver of the killer bus and his assistant.
In Sadar Upazila, a former union parishad member was killed as a truck hit his private car on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhabanipur area on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Ahsan Ullah (55), son of Afsar Uddin, a former union parishad member of Bhawal Mirzapur union.
Police said the speeding truck hit the private car while Ahsan was returning home around 9pm, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to a private clinic in the area where doctors declared him dead.
