Road accidents kill seven in four dists

A total of seven persons were killed in separate road accidents in Habiganj, Rangpur, Rajshahi and Chandpur on Saturday and Friday, report agencies.
UNB reports from Habiganj, three people were killed as a stolen truck hit a three-wheeler in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj district on Saturday morning.
The deceased were identified as Mofizul Mia, 30, of Andiura union, Amsu Mia, 28 and Samad Mia, 45, of the same upazila.
According to Shayestaganj Highway Police Station, the speedy truck rammed the three-wheeler in front of Madhabpur Fire station on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at around 6.45 am, leaving Mofizul dead on the spot.
Seriously injured Amsu and Samad died on the way to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
OC of Shayestaganj Highway Police Station Mohammad Mainul Islam said a truck was reported stolen from Tangail's Mirzapur on Friday night and it was found the truck involved in the accident was stolen.
Owner of the truck, Mohammad Momin Miah, told police that the truck was stolen around 9 pm on Friday from Sun Brickers Field in Mirzapur. He also informed the local police, he said.
UNB from Rangpur says, two persons were killed and six others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the busy Dhaka-Rangpur Highway in the district early on Friday morning.
The accident occurred around 4.30am near a fuel refilling station on the high-speed corridor in the Shathibari area of the district's Mithapukur upazila.
"The Rangpur-bound bus, named 'Mayer Doa Paribahan', crashed into the potato-laden truck heading towards Dhaka at high speed, leaving two dead on the spot," said Shahjahan Ali, officer-in-charge of Baradarga highway police station.
One of the deceased was the truck driver and another was a male passenger of the bus but their identities could not be known immediately, he said. "The injured have been admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital," he police officer added.
BSS reports from Rajshahi, a skating teenage boy was killed when a trolley hit him in Monchmoil Bazar area under Bagmara upazila in the district on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Ershad Ali, 15, son of Rohidul Islam of Arji village in Naogaon district. For the last couple of days, Ali was visiting his maternal uncle's house at the Monchmoil village.
Quoting the eyewitnesses Mustaque Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Bagmara Police Station, said Ershad Ali came out of the house in the morning without notice to other family members.
Suddenly, he fell prey to the hit by a brick-laden trolley and skidded off the road while he was skating on the road around 6.30 am. He died on the spot.
A case of unnatural death was recorded with the police station in this connection, the police officer added.
UNB from Chandpur reports, an elderly woman was killed as a bus ran over her on Chandpur-Cumilla regional highway at Sengaon area of Sadar upazila on Friday noon.
The deceased was identified as Anowara Begum, 65, a resident of Raldia village in Ashikati union of the upazila.
Quoting locals, officer-in-charge (OC) of sadar police station, A Rashid, said "A Cumilla-bound bus hit Anowara around 12pm while she was crossing the highway after buying essentials from a grocery shop, leaving her dead on the spot".
On information, police recovered the body, he added.
"The bus was seized but the driver managed to flee", the officer said.
Legal action will be taken in this regard, added the OC.
