Road blockaded for 3 hrs

GAIBANDHA, Oct 2: Rangpur-Bogra Road at Boalia area under Gobindaganj Upazila Town in the district was blockaded for 3 hours Friday in protest against ransacking or a temple of the area.
Police said a group of the locals along with lathi entered the Shib Bari temple of the area forcibly on Friday afternoon and ransacked it following previous land related dispute.
In protest against the incident, the members of the temple committee and the Hindu devotees chanted slogans against the culprits and also blockaded the road at Boali area at 5pm.
As a result, the road communication was totally disrupted from Gobindaganj to other parts of the country and a large number of vehicles were stranded on the road creating untold sufferings to the commuters and the pedestrians for a few hours.
On information, deputy commissioner M. Shahidul Islam, police super M. Shahadat Hossain and Gobindaganj Upazia Parishad chairman Abul Kalam Azad rushed to the spot and took initiative to open the road for traffic movement.
Later, after holding fruitful discussion between the temple committee and the administration and getting assurance from the administration side of taking lawful action against the troublemakers, the blockade was withdrawn from the road at 8 pm and traffic movement became normal.
