Road crashes claim 16 lives in 3 dists

Sixteen people were killed and four others injured in road accidents in Tangail, Naogaon and Manikganj districts on Wednesday, reports UNB.
In Tangail, 10 people, including four members of a family, were killed and three others injured in a fatal road accident on the Tangail-Mymensingh road at its Ashura point under Madhupur upazila.
The deceased were identified as Rahima Khatun, 50, her daughter Salma Begum, 30, two grandsons -- Sadequl Islam, 12, and Shafi Islam, 6, of Aralia village, Firoza Begum, 40, Sajid, 3, Abdul Quader, 50 of Gangair village, Habibur Rahman, 55, Hena Akhter, 35, and Esha Akter, 14, of Raktipara village.
Police said the accident took place around 12:30 pm when a Tangail-bound truck from Madhupur hit the tempo coming from the opposite direction, killing the eight people on the spot and five others injured. The injured were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where Safi and Esha died after admission. Police seized the truck but its driver fled the scene.
In Naogaon, four people, including a child, were killed and another was injured when a truck hit an auto-rickshaw on the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway at Bagachara in Mahadebpur upazila.
