Road crashes claim seven lives in four districts

Seven were killed in separate road accidents in Narsingdi, Bhola, Panchagarh and Cumilla on Wednesday and Thursday, report agencies.
In Narsingdi, three people, including an autorickshaw driver, have been killed after an unidentified car slammed into the vehicle on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Narsingdi's Shibpur Upazila.
The incident took place in the Syednagar area around 12:30 pm on Thursday, said Itakhola Highway Police Outpost Sub-Inspector Abul Khayer.
The victims have been identified as Nasir Uddin (26), Joj Mia (23) and Shahin Hossain (28). All of them were residents of Shibpur's Kamargaon.
"An unidentified car fled after crashing into the autorickshaw as the three-wheeler reached Dhaka-Sylhet Highway from a regional road, leaving driver Nasir dead on the spot," Khayer said.
Joj and Shahin died on their way to the Narsingdi 100-Bed Zilla Hospital. Police sent the bodies to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue afterwards.
Law enforcers have recovered CCTV footage to identify the car which has been on the run since the accident. A case is being prepared over the incident, Khayer added.
In Bhola, a doctor was killed in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a microbus on the Bhola-Charfashion regional highway in Baklai intersection area under Lalmohan upazila of the district on Thursday.
The dead is Hillol Dey (36), son of Kajal Chandra, resident of Malaypattan village under Borhanuddin upazila of the district. He was a medical officer of Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex.
The accident occurred in the area when Hillol was going to the Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex on a motorcycle. On the way, a head-on collision occurred with a Bhola-bound microbus coming from the opposite direction around 11.30 am, leaving him seriously injured, duty-officer of Lalmohan thana sub-inspector (SI) Omar Farooq said.
Locals rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem, he said.
Police seized the microbus but its driver escaped, he added.
In Panchagarh, a man and his wife died when a covered van hit them in Panchagarh's Tetulia upazila on Wednesday.
The incident happened on Wednesday night in Bhajanpura Basar Mor area on the Tetulia-Dhaka highway.
The dead are Nur Alam (48), a farmer from Shibchondi area of Devnagar union of Tetulia upazila, and his wife Josna Begum (42).
In Cumilla, an assistant sub-inspector of police was killed and a constable was injured after their motorcycle collided with an auto rickshaw in Cumilla's Chapitala union.
The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon.
The dead is Sajjadul Mannan (41), assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Bangora Bazar Police Station, said SI Palash of the thana.
