Road crashes claim ten lives in three dists

At least ten persons were killed in separate road accidents in Rangpur, Sylhet and Gaibandha districts on Saturday and Friday, reports BSS.
In Rangpur, a man and his son were killed and 20 others injured in a triangular collision between two passenger buses and a truck at Ramnathpur Border Ghar point on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway on Saturday.
"The accident occurred when the two passenger buses and the truck overturned and fell down into a roadside ditch after the collision killing the two there at 11:30 pm," Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Rangpur Highway Circle Zahidur Rahman Chowdhury said.
The dead are Md Al Amin (40) and his son Mahin (6) of village Radha Krishnapur under Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district.
Being informed, the fire service and civil defense personnel and the police rushed to the spot, rescued the bodies and injured persons and sent them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
In Sylhet, at least five people were killed and two others injured in a road accident on the Sylhet-Tamabil road as a bus collided with a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Darvaste area under Jaintapur Upazila of the district on Friday night.
The dead are Musad Ali (50), son of Khursed Alam, resident of Barakhla village of the upazila, Noor Uddin (55), son of Mozammel Ali, resident of Srikhel village, Abdul Latif (50), son of Abdul Bari, resident of Bargati village, Md Kamal (25), son of Tariqul Islam, resident of Farfra village, and Matin Kachai (45), son of Abdus Shukur of Dighirpar village of the upazila. All the deceased were auto-rickshaw passengers.
The accident occurred in the area when a Jaflong-bound bus from Sylhet collided head-on with the a battery-run auto-rickshaw (locally called Tomtom) around 10:00 pm last night, leaving five passengers of battery-run auto-rickshaw dead on the spot and two others injured, Sylhet district police media officer Shyamal Bonik said.
In Gaibandha, three persons, including a couple, were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Baluabazar area on the Dhaka-Rangpur Highway under Gobindaganj upazila in the district on Friday night.
The dead are Zahid (25) and his wife Jharna Begum (22) of Chalknadi village under Dhaperhat union of Sadullapur upazila and Jahurul Islam, son of Abdul Jobbar of the same village.
All the dead and injured victims were the passengers of the truck, police said.
Police and local sources said the accident took place when a Rangpur-bound bus of 'Shyamoli Paribahan' reached the Baluabazar area, then a truck from opposite direction collided head on with the bus, leaving its helper dead on the spot and 17 injured seriously.
Of the injured, two succumbed to their injuries at Upazila Health Complex.
