Another report adds: After the establishment of new digital system of T&T board in Noakhali, at least three thousand new lines were given in only Begumganj Upazila area in addition to other places of the district while the revenue of BTCL increased significantly. But at present, T&T is in a rather dilapidated condition for the carelessness of the authority.
Last year, in the month of October, the authority of Roads and Highways, with its prior intimation to BTCL to make a four lined wide road from Choumuhani chourasta (intersection) started eviction of illegal structures and road digging work with modern excavating machines.
The road extension authority dug both sides of the road for making drains and footpaths wider with heavy machines. However, as a result of excavation, almost all the underground cables were damaged and torn out badly.
Consequently, around one and a half thousand of domestic and commercial telephone lines were cut off causing severe disruption of communications at home and abroad.
According to the source, though the R&H department gave advance notice to unearth all kinds of underground cables and water supplying pipes of the concerning authorities, the BTCL paid no heed to remove the lines and rather, when its cables were ruined, it claimed big amount of compensation from R&H.
Nevertheless receiving Tk one million as loss recovery, the BTCL is hardly seemed to be eager enough to repair the damaged lines. It was alleged that it mended only a few of VIP lines putting off most other lines unrepaired and it is uncertain when they would be restored.
Now, the cables were being damaged and stolen by miscreants while the phone holders had been undergoing acute sufferings for want of active lines.
Again, for the negligence of BTCL, many land phone clients are surrendering their phones one after another and purchasing lines from other companies of land or hand phones that was affecting revenue collection of the company greatly. On the other hand those who are holding lines have been paying line rents unjustly every month.
