Road transport TU threatens strike

Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation threatened to paralyze the country with programmes like strike, work-abstention and mass leave unless their 3-point demand is met, reports UNB. brThe BRTWF has already submitted a memorandum containing the 3-point demand to the Chief Adviser. brThe demands of the transport-sector trade union include restoration of trade union rights by scrapping the Emergency Power Rules, cancelling Labour Law (amendment) Ordinance 2008, implementation of appointment-letter rules, and immediate implementation of the agreements signed between BRTWF and past governments.brAnother report adds Some 800 river transport workers in Khulna region went on strike at Mongla seaport Tuesday demanding better wages. brChairman of Mongla Port Authority Ashrab Mohammad Iqbal said River Transport Workers' Federation in the region went on work stoppage at noon for better facilities. Loading and unloading of goods from the cargo-ships came to a halt because of the protests. brMeanwhile, a negotiation was going on between the port officials and the workers to end the deadlock.br
