Road-waterway blockade in Rangamati withdrawn

RANGAMATI, July 4 (UNB): Six organisations of Bangalee settlers on Friday noon withdrew their 36-hour road-waterway blockade enforced in the district protesting the tour of a team of International Commission on Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs to the hill region.
Parbatya Samaodhikar Andolon leader Peyar Ahmed and Parbatya Nagorik Parishad leader Nurjahan Begum said they recalled the strike as the CHT Commission delegation cancelled their today's Rangamati visit.
Earlier, the movement of all kind of vehicles on the roads and waterways remained halted from morning to the noon due to the blockade enforced at 6am.
No long route buses departed from the district in the morning.
The blockaders put up barricade at Manikchhari and Bhedbhedi Ansar camp on the Rangamati-Chittagong Road in the morning.
Earlier, six organisations -- Parbatya Samaodhikar Andolon (PSA), Parbatya Gano Parishad (PGP), Parbatya Oikya Parishad (POP), Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad, Parbatya Nagorik Parishad (PNP) and Parbatya Chhatra Andolon -- at a press conference at the office of Kathaltali Koratkal Babosayee Samity of Bangalee settlers on Thursday announced to enforce the road-waterway blockade from Friday.
A delegation of the CHT Commission, led by its co-chair Sultana Kamal, is on the visit to the hill region to learn about the latest situation and progress in the peace accord in CHT and recent Babuchhara incident.
