Roads blocked protesting power outage in Sylhet

Locals put up barricade on roads in different parts of Sylhet city on Friday giving vent to their anger for intermittent power supply and seeking an immediate way out of the situation. Sources said residents of Tukerbazar blockaded Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway for one hour in the afternoon to press for their demand for smooth electricity supply in the area. They also staged a demonstration by chanting slogans and burning tyres on the road. Away in Pathantula, local people placed barricades on Sylhet-Sunamganj Highway at about 9:00pm agitating for regular power supply. Besides, locals staged a demonstration on the Rikabibazar Road in the north-eastern divisional city by burning tyres around 7:00pm demanding early solution to power crisis in the area. Traffic on the busy road remained halted following the blockades, causing immense sufferings to the travelers. Meanwhile, a transformer at Kumargaon Power Station went out of order on Wednesday night accentuating sufferings from power shortage, according to a news agency.
