Roadside cattle markets to be evicted: DMP

Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Asaduzzaman Mia on Thursday said any makeshift cattle market is set up alongside roads, outside of the 23 spots earmarked by the two city corporations, will be evicted.
“If any market is set up alongside road instead of the designated places and it creates traffic jam, law enforcers will evict it and seize the cattle,” he said while speaking at a press briefing at the DMP media centre.
The DMP commissioner said since a total of 23 places have been leased out for setting up cattle markets, no cattle market in any other place except those pre-fixed places will be allowed.
Asaduzzaman Mia said cattle traders will have to carry banners in their cattle-carrying vehicles mentioning the name of the cattle markets where they will go.
“The DMP has already requested bank authorities to keep their branches located near the cattle markets open till evening to facilitate their transactions. They’ll be given proper security,” he said.
Meanwhile, stringent security measures have been taken in and around of the cattle markets to prevent doper gangs, Asaduzzaman said.
The detective branch (DB) of police will work in launch ghats and bus terminals during Eid-ul-Azha, the DMP commissioner added.
 “There had been no untoward incident during the last Eid-ul-Fitr and neither will be this Eid,” he said.
Law enforces will set up 13 check-posts at the exit points of Dhaka to stop hide smuggling, he said adding that no hide will go out of Dhaka, except Hemayetpur, during three days of Eid, a UNB report added.
