\\\'Robber\\\' beaten dead by mob in Gazipur

An alleged robber was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Dumni village in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Sohel, a resident of Joina Bazar of the upazila. Locals said a gang of robbers stormed the house of expatriate Shanti Chandra at Dumni village at about 12:45am. The hoodlums beat up the house inmates as they tried to resist them. They looted five tolas of gold ornaments, Tk 150,000 cash and other valuables worth Tk 0.5 million from the house. When the inmates raised a hue and cry, locals came to the spot and locked in a fight with the bandits who also stabbed two local people. The locals managed to catch one of the robbers, Sohel, after a hot chase. They gave him a good thrashing, leaving him dead on the spot. The two stabbed rescuers — Sobuj Chandra Das and Manik Chandra Das – were first whisked off to Gazipur Sadar Hospital and then referred to Dhaka. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for autopsy. Mohsinul Kader, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, confirmed the incident. A case was filed, according to UNB.
