Robber killed in Comilla \\\'shootout\\\'

A suspected robber was killed and three others were injured in what law enforcers termed a ‘shootout’ between his cohorts and members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Comilla Sadar Dakkhin upazila early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Abdul Kader, 35, son of Sahadat Hossain of Bharanikhanda village in Monoharganj upazila. Shah Kamal Akanda, sub-inspector of Comilla DB police, said acting on secret information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery, a DB team conducted a drive in Perul area on Comilla-Laksam Road around 3:30am. Sensing the presence of the DB police, the robbers opened fire on them and the law enforcers also retaliated with firing, triggering a gunfight. During the gunfight, four robbers, including Abdul Kader, were injured. Police also arrested eight robbers while fleeing the scene. Abdul Kader died on way to Comilla Medical College Hospital while his two associates were admitted to the hospital. Three policemen, including a sub-inspector and two constables, were injured in the gun battle. They were given first aid. Police recovered a shotgun, three LGs, five sharp weapons and several rounds of bullet from the spot, according to a news agency.
