COX'S BAZAR, Jan 8 (UNB): An alleged robber was killed in a 'gunfight' between his cohorts and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Baro Moheshkhali in Moheshkhali upazila Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Dildar alias Didar, 28. He was wanted in at least six criminal cases, said Ranjit Kumar Barua, officer-in-charge of Moheshkhali police station.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-7 raided a den of robbers in a dense forest of the upazila at about 7am.
As the RAB men got close to the den, the criminals opened fire on the law enforcers forcing them to retaliate, triggering a brief gunfight, RAB sources said.
At one stage of the shootout, the criminals fled the scene.
