Robber ringleader killed in \\\'gunfight\\\'

The ringleader of an inter-district robbers' gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Gopalpur village in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari early Monday. The deceased was identified was Abdur Rouf, 28, son of Abdur Rahman, s resident of Faziyadanga village of the upazila. He was wanted by police in several cases filed with three police stations in Kushtia district, Pangsha and Kalukhali, including murder and robbery cases. Police said they arrested Rouf from the Faridpur-Rajbari Highway on Saturday night while he was taking preparation to commit robbery. After interrogation, police along with Rouf conducted a drive at the village around 1am to recover firearms. When the police team reached the village, associates of Rouf opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a ‘gunfight’. Rouf was caught in the line of fire and injured critically while his associates managed to flee the scene. He was rescued and taken to a Pangsha hospital. As his condition was deteriorated, he was shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to a news agency.
