Robbers gun down JL leader in Moulvibazar

MOULVIBAZAR: A local Jubo League (JL) leader was killed and five people, including women, were injured in an attack by robbers at Hilalpur village in Sadar upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 36, science and technology affairs secretary of Sadar upazila unit of the ruling party’s youth front.
Police said a gang of robbers entered the house of Nurul Ahmed at the village by breaking open the door in the early hours of Tuesday, according to a news agency.
The robbers beat up the house inmates indiscriminately as they tried to resist them.
Hearing the hue and cry, Nazrul and other villagers rushed in and chased the thugs.
At one stage, the armed robbers opened fire on the villagers, killing Nazrul on the spot.
They dacoits looted cash and other valuables worth about Tk 15 lakh from the house.
