Robbers kill three villagers in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Nov 9 (UNB): Three villagers were shot dead and two others injured by robbers in separate robbery incidents in Char Bhadrason and Sadarpur upazilas early Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Md Sazzad Mridha, 30, and his cousin Sentu Mridha, 28, of Char Bhadrason and Malek Khan, 35, of Sadarpur upazila.
Ram Prosad Bhakta, officer in-charge of Char Bhadrason Police Station, said a gang of robbers stormed into the house of Anser Fakir of Mridha Dangi area around 2:00 am and held the family members hostage at gunpoint.
They looted 45 tolas of gold ornaments which were bought on the occasion of his son's marriage ceremony, scheduled to be held on Thursday, said house owner Shamsul Fakir.
Hearing a call over microphone about the robbery, local people rushed to the spot and chased the robbers.
Sensing danger, the robbers who were fleeing by a speedboat, fired several gunshots on villagers, leaving four of them injured.
The injured were taken to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital where Sazzad and Sentu died while another injured - Alamin Fakir - was sent to Dhaka as his condition is critical.
Harun-or-Rashid, Sadarpur Police Station OC, said a gang of robbers stormed into the house of Sultan Kha of Munshir Char area early in the morning.
Being resisted by the family members, the robbers fired several gunshots, leaving Malek Khan dead on the spot.
The bodies were sent to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy, the police officer added.
