Robi arranges safe drinking water for train passengers

FE Report Almost 24 thousand passengers travelling through Kamalapur Railway Station everyday will be provided safe drinking water by mobile operator Robi. A water plant set up for the purpose will supply 4000 liters of safe drinking water each hour to cater to thirsty passengers. The safe drinking water plant was launched Wednesday in the presence of high officials of Bangladesh Railway and mobile phone operator Robi. Officials of the railway station thinks that the initiative will help many people especially those who cannot afford to buy safe water. The reservoir has been fitted with ten taps of which five were kept for males, four for females and one dedicated for the disabled people. To purify the water by using ultraviolet light, a membrane filtration system has been installed, said the organisers who will appoint a caretaker to look after the water supplying facility at the station. As part of Corporate Social Responsibility, the Mobile operator Robi Axiata Limited with the technical help of Water Aid Bangladesh has set up the plant titled "Nirapod Pani, Sushtho Jibon". Director General of Bangladesh Railway Md Abu Taher thanked the operator for the initiative and requested them to set up this kind of plant in five major railway stations including Chittagong and Airport Railway Station. Chief Financial Officer of Robi Mahtabuddin Ahmed, Robi Executive Vice President (Corporate Affiars Regulatory and Legal) Mahmudur Rahman, Vice President Segufta Yeasmin Samad, Additional Director General (Operation) Bangladesh Railway Mohammad Shahjahan and country representative of Water Aid Dr Khairul Islam were present in the inaugural ceremony.
