Robi to invest Tk 480m in network modernisation

Robi, a mobile telephone operator in the country, will invest Tk 480 million ($70 million) in network modernisation and expansion, which will improve its customers' experience when making calls and using wireless internet facilities, according to a press release.
Chief Technical Officer of the company AKM Morshed said: "We feel proud to undertake the country's first ever massive network modernisation programme to the benefit of the customers. It will enhance the quality of the service."
The programme is being done in partnership with Nokia Siemens Networks, which is well known for having a strong mix of technology and delivery experience. It will focus on implementing energy efficient equipment and reduce the use of air conditioners at all levels of the network, particularly in the radio-based station area.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company Michael Kuehner said: "With the new, energy efficient equipment it could save 30 per cent of power consumption in the operation. This will have a significant positive impact on the country's Eco balance."
