Robi to organise English language fair at 300 schools

FE Report Mobile operator Robi is going to organise an 'English Language Fair' at 300 schools across the country on October 12 with a view to reducing English learning fear from the students' minds. Organisers at a press conference at a city hotel Monday informed the media that the fair is designed to engage students from class six to class ten, teachers and community which teaches English language. There will be movie based competition, vocabulary tests, situation based quizes in the fair. Two years ago, Robi, a leading mobile operator in the country, and English newspaper the Daily Star jointly introduced an English language course titled 'English in School' which was patronised by the Ministry of Education. Under the initiative of 'English in School', 1000 (317 government and 683 non-government) secondary schools are being provided with three copies of the Daily Star five days a week along with a special 'English in Schools' page on Monday. Director of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education Prof Shafiqur Rahman, the Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, Managing Director & (CEO Chief Executive Officer) of Robi Michael Kuehner declared the opening of the fair at the press conference. Former Adviser to the caretaker government and the chairman of Adcomm Ltd. Geeteara Safiya Choudhury was also present on the occasion. Prof Shafiqur Rahman said English scare works more or less in all students' minds. Therefore, this kind of initiative would be a pleasure for learning English, he expressed the hope. The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam said they publish a page on 'English lesson' every Monday to teach the students English from their textbooks.
