Robi will set up 50 more base stations in Cox's Bazar by this December under its network quality enhancement programme to provide better services to nearly 0.5 million subscribers in the district.
Robi has already updated its 197 base stations with modern technologies. The telecom company prioritises Cox's Bazar, as they commenced operation from the beach town in 1997 under the name Aktel.
"We'll set up 50 more base stations in the area by December at a cost of Tk 250 million for expanding and improving our network," said Mohiuddin Babar, head of communications and media relations of Robi, which has 11.47 million subscribers across the country.
"Our valuable customers will get the best voice quality and network access from every corner of the region without any interruption," he said.
"Such programme will be gradually expanded across the country, as strong and wide network is a pre-condition to sustain in the highly competitive market." he said.
He also mentioned that a station will go into operation this month to handle excessive traffic in the beach town during holidays, as many of their subscribers faced difficulties in getting network during the Eid vacation.
"The special station would automatically start providing network facilities during holidays when the number of tourists would increase significantly than the network capacity," Mr Babar added.
According to its own statistics, Robi has secured 75 per cent share of the mobile market in Cox's Bazar with nearly 0.5 million subscribers.
