Robusta coffee prices climb on tight supplies

Saturday, 6 July 2024

LONDON, July 5 (Reuters): Robusta coffee futures on ICE were higher on Thursday as the market continued to derive support from tight supplies in top producer Vietnam while London cocoa prices also rose.
New York-based raw sugar, arabica coffee and cocoa contracts were closed on Thursday for a US public holiday.
September robusta coffee rose 2.6 per cent to $4,163 a tonne by 1200 GMT.
Dealers said supplies in top robusta producer Vietnam remained tight, ensuring exports will remain comparatively low.
In the first six months of 2024, Vietnam coffee exports were down 10.6 per cent from the same period a year ago, according to government data.
"Monthly exports will keep falling until around November when new supplies from the 2024/25 crop season come," a trader in Vietnam's coffee belt said.
COCOA
September London cocoa rose 0.8 per cent to 6,503 pounds per tonne.
Dealers said the market was keenly awaiting upcoming second quarter grind data for indications on whether a rise in prices was curtailing demand.
