Three alleged drug traders were killed in 'shootouts' with the police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf Upazila, reports bdnews24.com.
Two of the dead were arrested by the police over drug-related cases and had accompanied law enforcers to the raid.
The other was a Rohingya woman who was shot in a crossfire while peddling drugs, the BGB said.
The two incidents occurred between 1:30am and 4.00am Sunday, said the police and BGB officials.
Teknaf Police OC Pradip Kumar Das said that the gunfight between police and drug smugglers occurred in the Moulvibazar area of Teknaf's Hnila Union.
The deceased in the incident have been identified as the 28-year-old Mahmudur Rahman and the 25-year-old Mohammed Afsar.
Mahmudur and Afsar were arrested by the police on Saturday night, said OC Pradip.
"Police brought two people with gunshots wounds to the hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning. They died on the way to the hospital," said Shahin Md Abdur Rahman Chowdhury, the resident medical officer of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.
The other 'shootout' occurred near a canal adjacent to the Naf River in Hnila Union's Damdamia area.
A 20-year-old Rohingya woman named Rumana Akhter was killed in the incident. She was the wife of Badrul Islam, a resident at the unregistered Leda Rohingya Camp in Teknaf.
A boat coming from Myanmar with a group of Rohingyas was about to enter Bangladesh when it was signalled to stop by a BGB patrol team, said Major Shariful Islam Jomadar, the acting captain of the BGB's Teknaf-2 Battalion.
"They then opened fire at the BGB. The BGB troopers retaliated in self -defence. At one point, the Rohingyas started fleeing. A woman with gunshot wound was later found at the scene."
She was rushed to the Teknaf Upazila Health Complex, where doctors on duty declared her dead.
