Southtech Ltd, a local software company, has recently signed an agreement with Dongbu CNI Co Ltd, a South Korean multinational company, to introduce sophisticated and hi-tech solutions for financial institutions in Bangladesh. Southtech managing director Syed Mamnun Quader told the FE, "Dongbu is one of the conglomerates of South Korea which will help us to provide services for Data Center, System Integration, and Utility Computing Services for the local banks and financial institutions of the country." Bangladesh Bank has issued a directive named 'Guideline on ICT Security for Scheduled Banks and Financial Institutions' in April 2010 where many topics of ICT risk mitigation have been highlighted, including the required operating conditions in Data Centers and the need for ensuring business continuity in case of any disaster. Data Centers are facilities that house computer systems and other related components such as telecommunications, data storage systems, power backup supplies, redundant communication connections, appropriate air-conditioning, fire suppressants and security devices. Mr Quader said, "Southtech has the capability of designing and construction of Tier 1 and Tier 2 data centers. Dongbu CNI has experience of designing and constructing Tier 3 and Tier 4 data centers (highest level)." "This service will ensure fault tolerant site infrastructure with electrical power storage and distribution facilities guaranteeing availability of banking services through ICT. Southtech and Dongbu CNI can now jointly implement Tier 3 and Tier 4 data centers which are unusual in Bangladesh." Dongbu CNI Co Ltd vice president Han Il Lee and Southtech managing director Syed Mamnun Quader signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations at the end of last month.
