Role of migrants discussed

The Bangladesh Consulate General in New York has discussed the role of migrants. The theme of the discussion was on ‘safe migration’. Bangladesh has a particular interest in safe migration as millions of Bangladeshis work abroad and their remittances are the 2nd biggest source of foreign exchange for the country. Dhaka has won a bid recently to host the meeting of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) in 2016. The Consulate General said Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UN Ambassador AK Abdul Momen was present as chief guest at the discussion. He described the importance of the Day in the context of the global movement of people. He highlighted the role of the Bangladesh government ‘in protecting the interests of the migrants and the would-be migrants of the country’. Consul General Md Shameem Ahsan chaired the discussion, held at the Northern Boulevard, Long Island City, Queens, New York, according to a news agency.
