Role of parents in fixing life's goals

DETERMINATION of aim in life is most important for young students. Anyone who would dream of becoming great in life and who dreams to be something like doctor, engineer, reporter, businessperson or government officer would surely be inspired to study and will do good in studies. Parents and guardians have a greater role to play in this regard.
Parents can make their kids familiar with various professions. They can take their kids to various work places and see how a kid reacts to various situations. If someone likes engineering work more than anything, may be that kid wants to be engineer in the long run. Parents can take steps accordingly so that the kid becomes good in mathematics, science and eventually can get admitted into engineering college/university.
Similarly, if parents see that their kid likes the works of a television reporter, they can make the kid more familiar by taking the kid to the work place of the TV reporters. The kid may get some idea about how a TV reporter works. If the parents are more serious, they can also try in such a way so that the kid, in his or her young age, gets opportunity to work as a young reporter. Some television channel like Ekushey TV in Dhaka offers such opportunities of young journalisms for the youngsters.
Today parents are too busy to give time for their kids. When both are working parents, they have less time to spend with their kids. Also if they are addicted to television, Internet or such things, they can spend less time for their kids. They need to make sure that that they spend enough time for their kids. Only through giving time for their kids, and spending time effectively, parents can help their kids decide about their aims and help them materialise them.
Parents also need to make sure that the child gets the right environment for growing up like they dream. If a kid wants to be scientist, the parents need to arrange various instruments for the kid so that the kid can create his or her own laboratory. Also parents can take the kid to various science fairs held at different times of the year. By visiting various science fairs, the kid will be more interested in experiments and thus can become a scientist in the long run. Also parents would need to ensure that the student is doing well in mathematics, science and relevant subjects so that the kid gets good education and can become a reputed scientist in the long run.
When parents would give their kids books that are consistent with their children's aim, they will find that the kids are reading them with fun. And of course, when studies will be a fun, the kids will surely spend much time in reading those books. Parents will have to worry less about the education of their kids.
