Role of Quantum Foundation lauded

The Quantum Foundation blood donation programme was able to play role in saving lives of more than 600,000 people in the last one decade.
This was disclosed during a function organised by the Quantum Foundation to honour more than 150 blood donors for donating blood 25 to 50 times.
Held at the Press Club auditorium on Friday, the function was attended by University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury as the chief guest. Quantum Foundation chief coordinator Madam Nahar Al Bukhari presided over it.
Addressing the function, the chief guest said blood donation is the result of ultimate human civilisation and contribution of the donors is enormous.
"The relationship that blood donors develop with the people is more than the relationship of blood relation," he told the function.
Expressing gratitude to the Quantum Foundation for showing respect to blood donors, Prof Azad said honouring blood donors comes from the heart of the people.
Madam Nahar Al Bukhari said having sound health is the greatest blessing of the Almighty and for that reason blood donors were able to donate bloods to people several times. The return of blood donors cannot be counted in value and it is payable only by the Almighty.
Honorary director of Quantum Blood Donation programme and professor of Hematology Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Dr ABM Yunus delivered the inaugural speech.
Ashfakur Rahman Adnan and Mehedi Hasan, a Thalassemia patient, spoke on the occasion on behalf of blood donors and recipients respectively.
