Role of teachers in shaping the character and abilities of students

Sifat SiddiquebrNapoleon Bonaparte once said that ‘You give me an educated mother and I will give you a powerful nation’! Our mother is our basic yet primary teacher whose moves influence our very demeanor strongly right from the very beginning. And since parental attitude plays a vital role in determining our characteristics, teachers similarly play a big role in shaping the characteristics of students!!!brTeachers not only teach students some mere academic lessons—- they actually deliver the picture of what a human should become. Definitely, teachers have a great impact on their fellow students through their educational background and composed tactfulness. They become a role model for their students as everyone eventually wants to become as successful and enlightened as them. Thus, they should speak out about some of their ways of life that had taken them to such achievements. They should tell about the daily routine they followed for both education and recreation; they can say about their inspiration and self-confidence and they can also relay the easiest techniques of remembering key points during examinations which they had adopted themselves. Teachers should try to discuss the problems which students face both personally and educationally because both are quite related—-one compliments the other. They should try to produce fruitful solutions and help students in overcoming mental stress and depressions. All these can highly accelerate improvement in students as they would now find moral support from both the family and the school. brTeachers should evaluate students whose performances in the class are brilliant. In this way, they would be strengthening their confidence and trigger them more into developing and continuing such activities. Hope of reward is an effective way to control human behavior. Thus this wish can result into unexpected performance from students that can be very impressive. Moreover, if one particular student is praised everyday, others would be doomed to envy him and eventually they would thrive for the appreciation themselves. As a result, average class effort would increase, improving general class intellectual level! No matter what happens at home, they would try to finish the lessons with utmost concentration and dedication and such practice would bring perfection!brMoreover, teachers need to regularly give homework to students and also make sure that students submit them on time. ‘Spare the rod and spoil the children.’ To put it in another way, fear of punishment keep people in line. So penalties like detentions, doing the same homework 50 times, should be imposed in the class so that even if students want to skip lessons, they would be forced to practice them. Humans are slave to habits! And if this regular routine continues accordingly, students would consequently build a tendency to sit for lessons. This habit will bring excellent output from them and once they will be prone to high grades, they will do everything to save it!brWe always need a mentor in our life as we did not bring knowledge with us directly from our mother’s womb. Thus a teacher is our educator, trainer, adviser and many other things in our life. So definitely, a teacher plays a very pivotal role in giving a student the shape to cope successfully with the stresses of life.
