Romania will hire 300 skilled workers from Bangladesh for its apparel industry through the state-owned recruitment agency.
Of them, 102 workers are expected to go to the European country by this month, while the first batch of 30 workers will go this week, officials said.
The manpower will be hired through the Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL).
Talking to the FE, BOESL Managing Director Dr Mallick Anwar Hossain said they are going to send workers to Romania for the first time.
Sonoroma Sports Wear, an apparel industry, will recruit the manpower. The first batch of 30 workers, mostly line operators, is scheduled to go to the job destination by December 22.
The company will hire skilled manpower, like engineers, managers and line operators, having 3-5 years of experience. The workers were mostly selected from units at the export processing zones (EPZ).
Migration cost for each worker is Tk 231,240, including airfare and service charge, while their wages will vary from US$ 500 to US$ 5,000, the BOESL chief mentioned.
The company concerned will bear the cost of food, accommodation and medical fees. The workers will be hired for a two-year contract period, with renewal option.
The first batch of workers, mostly line operators, will receive wages from $500 to $1,300 each.
There is a good demand for garment workers in Romania at present, as its apparel companies are starting production locally, instead of importing from others countries, considering profitability, he added.
The BOESL has an opportunity to send 5,000-10,000 workers in the country each year, especially to apparel industries.
"If the workers can perform properly, we'll get more demand from other companies," he hoped.
Meanwhile, attending the pre-departure briefing of the Romania-bound workers, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad said Europe is a potential destination for Bangladeshi job seekers.
The number of outbound workers to the region has increased nowadays. "We are working to create more jobs in these destinations (for our workers)."
Signing deals with Croatia and Serbia on sending workers is underway, he mentioned.
The briefing, organised by the BOESL, was held at the ministry's conference room in the capital.
Dr Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, secretary of the ministry, was present in the event, among others.
