Ronaldo romps past Messi

Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo outpaced Argentine Lionel Messi to occupy the No 1 spot in The Guardian’s list of top 100 footballers of the world-2014. The list published in its entirety by the British newspaper, contains a few surprises. According to the list, 29-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, popularly known as Cristiano Ronaldo, is atop the 10 greatest footballers of 2014. With the world at his feet, Ronaldo has been the single dominant figure in world sccer in the whole year. A phenomenal influence in the world champion club teams, Ronaldo with 56 goals in 51 matches overall, along with league title, Champions League and Club World Club medals for Real Madrid, is the most fatly paid booter in the globe. The Guradian’s top 100 booters’ list is a product of 73 judges drawn from 28 countries, with Hernan Crespo, Didi Hamann, Slaven Bilic and Gilberto Silva among the expert panel. At the top of which Ronaldo has been occupying the No 1 spot, as voted by 74 per cent of those involved. In 2012 Messi was the No 1 pick securing a 100 % vote. Last year Messi was No 1 by a 60 % majority. This year Messi got just 12 % of the vote, despite continuing to perform very well in La Liga. Ronaldo, the captain of the Portuguese national team, plays as a forward for Spanish club Real Madrid, is according to a news agency.
