Ronaldo scores 850th goal in Al Nassr win

Monday, 4 September 2023

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his 850th career goal as Al Nassr won 5-1 at Al-Hazm in the Saudi Pro League on Saturday, report agencies.
Ronaldo scored his sixth goal in his last three games and claimed two assists as Al-Nassr recorded a third straight league victory. Sadio Mane was also on the scoresheet.
Ronaldo's 68th-minute strike, 10 minutes after new signing Otavio opened his Al-Nassr account, took the game away from Al-Hazm. However, it was more than just another goal as Ronaldo hit 850 total career goals, cementing his place as the most prolific player to ever play the game.
'Another great team performance! We keep improving. Let's go @AlNassrFC. 850 career goals and still counting!' the 38-year-old Ronaldo posted on social media.
After Al-Nassr lost their first two league games this term, last season's runners-up, who have scored 14 goals in their last three games, are now just four points off leaders Al-Hilal.
Ronaldo is the league's top scorer this season with six goals, one ahead of former Liverpool forward Mane.
After a slow start, Al-Nassr took the lead in the 33rd minute through Abdulrahman Ghareeb, before Abdullah Al-Khaibari made it two in the eighth minute of stoppage time at the end of the opening period.
But within two minutes of the restart, Muhammed Badamosi draw one back for the hosts, only for summer signing Otavio to restore the two-goal margin 10 minutes later.
After the third goal, Al-Nassr's leading stars joined the party, Ronaldo netting his landmark goal on 68 minutes ahead of Mane's strike in the 78th.
Ronaldo says it is "850 career goals and still counting" after scoring in Al-Nassr's 5-1 victory over Al-Hazm. Ronaldo has scored 26 goals in 30 games since joining from Manchester United in December.
He scored his 800th career goal in December 2021 at United.
The victory puts Al-Nassr four points off Al-Hilal in first.
Aleksander Mitrovic's hat-trick meant the league leaders won 4-3 at Al-Ittihad on Friday, with Karim Benzema scoring for the hosts.
Meanwhile, Moussa Dembele's double helped Al-Ettifaq to a 3-1 win over Damac. Victory for Al-Nassr extends their unbeaten run to four matches, while the win for Steven Gerrard's Al-Ettifaq ended a two-match winless run.
Elsewhere, an Al-Ahli side including Roberto Firmino, Gabri Veiga, Riyad Mahrez and Allan Saint-Maximin were beaten 5-1 by Al-Fateh, causing them to lose ground at the top.
Ronaldo was the first big name to move to Saudi Arabia, making the move from Manchester United to Al-Nassr in December 2022 and he hasn't been short of goals. Since making his debut against Al-Ettifaq in January, the prolific forward has added 20 Saudi Pro League strikes to his overall, and seemingly ever-growing, tally.
