Roof gardens become popular in Faridpur

FARIDPUR, Dec 14: Roof gardens are becoming popular day by day in Faridpur.
Sources said, numerous flowers, fruits and vegetables are filling the roofs of the city.
Besides protecting the balance of the environment, helping avoid tainted fruits and vegetables, these are helping meet the nutritional needs of families.


The agriculture department is providing all kinds of assistance to the homeowners for setting up such roof gardens.
Different types of fruit trees are grown on the roofs of the houses. There are many varieties of vegetables and flowers.
The roof gardens of the city have fruit trees of many species including oranges, malta, pomegranate, lemon, guava, mango, dragonfruit. Besides, there are vegetables and various types of flowering plants.
At present, these rooftops have a variety of seasonal fruits in the garden. Growers can eat poison-free fruits grown in the gardens as well as present those to relatives and neighbours.
Through these, the nutritional needs of the family are being met. And, seeing these rooftop gardens, many are eager to try to set up their own gardens.
Kartik Chandra Chakraborty, deputy director of the district's agriculture department said technical assistance and suggestions are being provided to the homeowners in the setting up of roof gardens.
According to the Department of Agriculture, there are currently at least 20 rooftop gardens in Faridpur town.
