Root closes in on No.1 Test batter ranking

Thursday, 25 July 2024

England players have made significant gains in the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings after their emphatic win over West Indies in the 2nd Test match. Harry Brook jumped to a career-best 3rd ranking after his century knock at Trent Bridge. Joe Root has also closed in on No. 1-ranked Kane Williamson in the rankings, report agencies.
Root improved 12 rating points to close within seven rating points of Williamson. The star player is one verge of re-claiming the No. 1 position if he presents yet another enthralling performance with the bat in the 3rd and the last Test match against West Indies in Birmingham.
Harry Brook surpassed Babar Azam, Daryl Mitchell, Steve Smith and Rohit Sharma in the rankings to attain his career-best ranking within 14 Test matches only.
In the ongoing series, Brook is the third-highest run-scorer with 195 runs from three innings at an average of 65.
