Rooting out social curses for peaceful society stressed

MYMENSINGH, Dec 4 (BSS): Speakers at a discussion on Wednesday emphasized the need for concerted efforts to root out social curses for building a peaceful society.
They also underlined the importance of launching a social movement against curses such as early marriage, dowry and eve teasing for a beautiful society.
The speakers said this while addressing the discussion on "Prevention of Early Marriage, Dowry and Eve Teasing" held at Goga Union Parisad auditorium of Muktagachha Upazila yesterday organized by World Vision, a non- governmental organization.
Presided over by chairman of Goga Union Parihsad Qamruzzaman Labu, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Muktagacha UNO Babul Mian as chief guest, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Sultana Begum, Muktijuddaha Matiur Rahman and World Vision ADP Manager Uzin Rodric Sajal Gomez.
The speakers added that the time has come to launch a movement to free the society from the curses like child marriage, dowry and eve-teasing. Without removing such social problems, there will be no scope for establishing peace and progress in the society, they said.
The speakers also urged the public representatives, social leaders, marriage registrars and conscious people of society to come forward to root out the prevailing social curses for greater interest of the country.
Representatives of different professional groups, NGOs, union parishad members, teachers, and marriage registrars and women leaders attended the meeting.
