Roundtable meet on TB control held in Jhenidah

JHENIDAH, Apr 17: Germs of tuberculosis were found in the bodies of 7,403 people through examination of cough of 90,544 compromising patients in six upazilas of Jhenidah in five years. Among them, 520 people died of the disease.
The data was found in a year-based progress report in a round-table meeting titled "Tuberculosis Control Program: Progress and Action'' held at Jhenidah Press Club on Thursday.
Electronic and print medias journalists working in Jhenidah and government officials took part in the round-table meeting.
National Tuberculosis Control Programme , Ministry of Health and Family Welfare , Health Department and Health Adhidaptor, BRAC and Jhenidah Press Club jointly organized the meeting.
Jhenidah Civil Surgeon Nasrin Sultana inaugurated the program chaired by president of Jhenidah Press Club M Saiful Mabud.
Yearly report said percentage of cure of tuberculosis in Jhenidah is over 90. Cough collected from 192 centres in six upazilas of Jhenidah is being examined in 12 laboratories.
The report also said that there are 73 health workers and 1,000 nurses to give assistance to tuberculosis patients in Jhenidah.
